About the Event
Artist in Me workshop
Facilitated by Parul Sharma
Everyday spaces often hold fragments of our stories — the rhythm of windows along a street, the texture of a peeling wall, or the shadow of a tree on concrete. These ordinary details can open doorways to memory, imagination, and emotion.
In this workshop, participants will explore how built spaces shape the way we remember and feel. The session begins with a guided walkthrough where participants sketch and note elements that capture their attention — facades, textures, colours, and light. Back in the workshop space, these impressions will be transformed into three-dimensional artist books, built through cutting, folding, layering, and composition.
Each participant will create a sculptural form that embodies a personal “architecture of memory” — a work that reflects the dialogue between space, self, and time. The process encourages a deeper engagement with our surroundings, inviting participants to see space not just as structure, but as a vessel of lived experience.
Takeaways:
- Explore how spaces can evoke emotions and recollections.
- Observe, sketch, and translate visual impressions into form.
- Learn creative construction techniques using folding and layering.
- Build a sculptural artist book inspired by memory and place.
- Reflect on how the act of making transforms experience into visual storytelling.
