‘Clearing’ by Simryn Gill, is set of three photograms, of a large palm tree which had to be removed for the expansion of the Art Gallery of New South Wales (AGNSW) in Sydney, Australia. While initially the tree was supposed to be replanted, it came to light that it was infested with coconut weevils, making it hollow. Through this work, Simryn wants us to think of the possibility, that was generated in that tree becoming horizontal, instead of vertical and the simultaneous loss. We gain, through this tree falling is a chance to get unclose, feel the upper part of the tree bark, its smoothness and roughness; the leaves that are yet to be born, the places where birds might have made their homes for little ones. The thing we perhaps lose however, is the tree-ness itself; the basic essence of what makes a tree, a tree.

'क्लीयरिंग' सिमरन गिल द्वारा तीन प्रिंट्स की एक सीरीज़ हैं, जिसमें एक बड़े खजूर के पेड़ की तस्वीरें है, जिसे सिडनी, ऑस्ट्रेलिया में स्थित आर्ट गैलरी ऑफ़ न्यू साउथ वेल्स के फैलाव के लिए हटाना पड़ा। इस पेड़ को वहाँ से हटा कहीं और पर लगाने की योजना बनायी गई, पर ऐसा ना हो सका क्यूंकि कोकोनट वीविल नामक घुन इस पेड़ को अंदर से खोखला कर चुका था। सिमरन इस काम के द्वारा एक रोचक दृष्टिकोण सामने लेकर आती हैं, जिसमे वह पेड़ के गिरने से पैदा होने वाली संभावनाओं का वर्णन करती हैं। उनका कहना है, की इस पेड़ के नीचे गिर जाने से, हम उसके ऊपरी भाग, उसके तने के उतार चढ़ाव और खुरदुरेपन, नई कपोलों को जो फूटने के इंतज़ार में हैं, को पास से देख सकते हैं जो इस पेड़ के खड़े होते हुए असंभव था। इस संभावनाओं के सामने आने के बावजूद, सिमरन पेड़ के गिरने से होने वाले नुक़सान से भी रूबरू हैं; जो की शायद उस मूल लंबाई और ऊंचाई को छीन लेता है जो पेड़ को पेड़ बनाती हैं।
