About the Event
Book Making and Dissemination through Zines I
Saturday Family Workshop
The first workshop in our series, Book Making and Dissemination through Zines, invites families to reflect on how a book is more than a collection of pages; it is a vessel of thought, memory, and imagination. In mirror binding, folded pages pressed back-to-back embody the act of reflection, echoing how gestures in life and art are repeated, mirrored, and carried forward.
Inspired by KNMA's ongoing exhibition Please Touch Gently: Zines, Comics, Ephemera, which highlights zines as spaces of independence, experimentation, and personal expression, this session considers the book not only as an object but also as a process, both physical and conceptual. Just as the exhibition reveals how zines nurture radical practices of production and dissemination outside the mainstream, this workshop transforms bookmaking into a reflective practice of empathy, care, and shared memory.
Each handmade book becomes a personal artefact, where pages mirror one another like fragments of thought and a collective exploration of how we organise, shape, and transmit ideas.
Audience takeaways:
- Explore the book as more than an object — as an archive, medium, and catalyst for dialogue
- Understand mirroring as a conceptual tool in art, relationships, and everyday life
- Connect with the experimental and independent spirit of zines presented in the exhibition
- Create a reflective artifact that embodies empathy, repetition, and the act of remembering
While you're here, we invite you to also explore KNMA's ongoing exhibitions—please touch gently: zines, comics, ephemera ; jo ġāyab hai, aur hāzir bhi - book sculptures of Saba Hasan; Extraordinary Line and Moomin 80 - The Door is Always Open the first-ever Moomin presentation in India!
