Join us for a two-day animation workshop that guides you through the art of bringing characters to life, inspired by the expressive world of Moomin.

Led by animator Salil Shail, Pause and Play is crafted for participants aged 16 and above, welcoming aspiring animators, illustrators, design students, art enthusiasts, or anyone curious about how movement tells a story.Over two immersive sessions, you’ll engage with the emotional and physical language of Moomin, the beloved creation of Finnish artist Tove Jansson.

Day one focuses on character study and motion fundamentals exploring poses, gestures, timing, and the subtle rhythm that defines Moomin’s personality.

On day two, participants dive into the animation process planning, blocking, and creating a short looping sequence that captures a moment of quiet wonder: Moomin discovers something magical under a leaf.

Audience Takeaways:

  • Understand Moomin's unique movement style through reference-based sketching
  • Learn principles like squash and stretch, arcs, and softness in motion
  • Develop a thumbnail storyboard and timing plan for your animation
  • Animate a loop with guidance and personalized feedback
  • Explore how to build emotion and storytelling through light, rhythm, and restraint
