Playbook Zines

About the Event

Saturday Family Workshop

This workshop asks: what happens when stories step off the flat page and begin to perform? In Playbook Zines, everyday narratives unfold through layers and cutouts, transforming books into playful spaces of performance and discovery.

Inspired by the exhibition Please Touch Gently: Zines, Comics, Ephemera, which presents zines as experimental and independent forms of storytelling, this session highlights the zine as both object and stage — a backdrop where memory, imagination, and play converge. Just as the exhibition reveals how comics and zines blur the boundaries between art, literature, and theatre, the Playbook Zine becomes an unfolding scene, a portable world where stories can be staged, opened, and reimagined.

The outcome is not only a handmade artefact but also an exploration of how books can hold theatricality, narrative depth, and the joy of collective storytelling.

Audience Takeaways:

  • Explore how stories transform when they move beyond the flat page
  • Reflect on the playful overlap between theatre, memory, and bookmaking
  • Engage with the exhibition's spirit of experimentation and narrative play
  • Carry home a layered zine that embodies performance, imagination, and dialogue
