Book Making and Dissemination through Zines III

As part of the ongoing series 'Book Making and Dissemination through Zines', this workshop explores books as sites of play, transformation, and surprise. In Swap Book, pages fold and reconfigure to reveal shifting faces, expressions, and stories — almost like small magic tricks made with paper. The act of swapping becomes an inquiry into how meaning can constantly change, how narratives are never fixed, but remain open to interpretation.

The workshop find inspiration in KNMA's ongoing exhibitions Extraordinary Line and please touch gently: zines, comics, ephemera. While the former will help the participants emphasize how even the simplest lines can proliferate into multiple meanings as it unfolds the power of drawing as mark, boundary, gesture, and statement. A stroll through the latter will help the participants draw from the zine's experimental, independent spirit, where stories are never fixed but constantly reimagined through interaction and exchange

The outcome is not only a handmade zine-object but also an invitation to see drawing and bookmaking as open-ended practices — playful, expressive, and endlessly transformative.

Audience takeaways:

  • Explore drawing as a language that shifts and multiplies across contexts
  • Engage with zine-making as a playful and transformative practice
  • Connect with Extraordinary Line and Please Touch Gently through acts of variation and exchange
  • Carry home a zine-object that embodies surprise, humour, and imagination

While you're here, we invite you to also explore KNMA's ongoing exhibitions — please touch gently: zines, comics, ephemera; jo ġāyab hai, aur hāzir bhi - book sculptures of Saba Hasan ; Extraordinary Line; and Moomin 80 - The Door is Always Open, the first-ever Moomin presentation in India.
