In the pitch black room, slowly the pupils adjust to images floating, with Hajra Waheed voice resonating, reciting “The Spiral”. The video installation begins with the invocation- “The spiral is more than a form”, as Hajra prompts us to think of the universal nature of the spiral. The spiral, is hope, a symbol of reistance, something present everywhere, something that can help us reflect on personal, and collective human experience. As we settle in, with Hajra;s voice resonating, the work urges us to keep our eyes open, to be able to see social transformations with our own eyes. As she says The spiral is made from the power and will of individuals and unarmed people, From the extraordinary achievement of ordinary people and ordinary daily actions of tending to, listening to, watching over and protecting.

It is survival as revival,
resistance as reclamation,
resilience as transformation.”

इस घुप्प अँधेरे से भरे कमरे में, हाजरा वहीद की आवाज़ में ‘द स्पाइरल’ की पंक्तियां सुनते हुए, हमारी आँखों की पुतलिया धीरे धीरे उन घूमती तस्वीरों को देख पायेंगी, जो इस वीडियो इंस्टालेशन का हिस्सा हैं। वीडियो के शुरुआत में, हाज़रा कहती हैं “कुण्डल, अपने आकार से कई बढ़कर है”। इस वाक्य से, हाजरा हमें कुण्डल की व्यापकता का आभास कराती हैं। कुण्डल चिह्न है, उम्मीद का, बदलाव का, घर्षण का जो हमें निजी, और सामूहिक इंसानी जीवन के बारे में ज्ञान देने की क्षमता रखता है। हाज़रा द्वारा बनाया यह काम हमें हमारे आस पास हो रहे सामाजिक बदलावों को बारीकी से देखने का निवेदन करता है।

यह बना है शक्ति, और संकल्प से, आम और निहत्थे लोगों के
आम, रोज़मर्रा के लोगों की रोज़मर्रा की ख़ास उपलब्धियों से
देखभाल से, सुनने से, साया बरकरार रखने, और बचाए रखने से।
यहाँ बचाव ही प्रवर्तन है
प्रतिरोध ही पुनर्जन्म है
और अटलता ही रूपांतरण।
