Transcript

The working space is a special space within the exhibition, which houses two amazing projects. Towards your right, will see a table right in front of you, with books, wooden printed plates and a screen, with a video. The project delves on the life and work of Sambasiva Rao Patchineelam, a revered geologist, researched and put together by Vijai Maia Patchineelam. The work details Sambasiva’s field research photographs, and documents his visits between India and Brazil. The table, almost lays out a biography bare- through it various parts which are recorded and tangible- photographs, texts etc. almost a mini coursework, the table invites us to think of not only Sambasiva’s work, but also the very act of working with archives, records, to bring to table this intersection between geology and art.

Ranjana Dave’s scores are present throughout the exhibition, inviting us to interact with these rocks, rest, stand, move and recline even; with the audio pieces triggering memories at high altitudes. She brings in memories of trekking in Ladakh, and in Switzerland, bringing out an extremely sensitive understanding of submission, to the landscape. “Sometimes, holding your ground, calls for submission. Ranjana’s scores remind us to slow down, and also to think of walking as an activity, and its importance. Throughout this tour, you have been travelling a different world within the exhibition, by walking, listening, thinking. Walking is, what makes us human. As she says:

The artists roundtable is another special initiation within this exhibition, which brings varied artist to the space for a set period of time, to interact with the works in the exhibition. These artists, bring their context and work to the exhibition, forming multiple levels of relations with the works already displayed. Field documentation, films, workshops, interactions, etc. This special space at the heart of the exhibition, is reminder of the branching nature of ecology; of its nature to accomodate and create a hospitable environment for all modes of practices undertaken by artists. The roundtable artists include Karan Shrestha, Anuja Dasgupta, Aasma Tulika and Kaushal Sapre, Gyanwant Yadav and Sharbendu De.

इस प्रदर्शनी में स्थित ठीक बीचों बीच वर्किंग स्पेस में २ खास प्रोजेक्ट्स हैं। अपनी दाहिनी ओर आप देखेंगे की एक टेबल पर किताबें और तस्वीरें हैं, और सामने एक स्क्रीन, जिसपर एक वीडियो चल रहा है। यह प्रोजेक्ट, भूविज्ञानी सांबासिवा राव पचीनीलम के जीवन पर उनके बेटे विजय पचीनीलम द्वारा किए गए शोध का नतीजा है। इस काम में सांबासिवा जी के लिखे गए लेख, काम के दौरान ली गई तस्वीरें, और ब्राज़ील और इंडिया के बीच अपने परिवार से मिलने की तस्वीरें मौजूद हैं। यह टेबल, उनकी जीवन की लेखनी को अलग अलग दृष्टिकोणों से प्रस्तुत करती है- मानो जैसे हम उनके जीवन का एक छोटा सा कोर्स कर सकते हैं। इस प्रोजेक्ट की ख़ास चीज़ मात्र सांबासिवा जी द्वारा किया गया ख़ूबसूरत काम ही नहीं, विजय द्वारा इस काम को कला की दृष्टि से सामने आला पाने की कुशलता में भी है, जहाँ भूविज्ञान और कला एक दूसरे से परे नहीं हैं।

रंजना दवे द्वारा लिखे गए स्कोर्स पूरी प्रदर्शनी में अलग अलग जगह पर हैं। रंजना हमें इन पत्थरों के साथ बैठने, बात करने, लेटने तक का न्योता देती हैं। वे अपने स्विट्जरलैंड और लद्दाख की चढ़ाइयों को याद करते हुए, समर्पण के एक बहुत ही संवेदनशील और भिन्न नजरिये को सामने लेकर आती हैं। उनका कहना है:

“कभी कभी, अपने पैर जमाने के लिए समर्पण ज़रूरी है”। रंजना के स्कोर्स हमें धीमे हो, चलने की प्रक्रिया पर ध्यान देने के सुझाव देते हैं। इस प्रदर्शनी के दौरान, मेरे साथ चलते हुए भी आप चलने, सोचने, सुनने और देखने की प्रक्रिया एक साथ कर रहे हैं। चलना एक ऐसी चीज़ है, जो हमें इंसान का दर्जा प्रदान करती है। आर्टिस्ट्स राउंडटेबल इस प्रदर्शनी में एक खास पहल है, जिसमे प्रदर्शनी में लगे कलाकारों के कामों के अलावा, कई कलाकारों को न्योता दिया गया है ताकि वह इस जगह में अपना काम प्रदर्शित कर सकें , और इस प्रदर्शनी के संदर्भ को और फैला सकें । यह कलाकार अपना काम करने, और दिखाने के साथ साथ अलग अलग तरह से आने वाले दर्शकों के साथ गतिविधियों मैं शामिल होंगे। प्रदर्शनी के ठीक बीचों बीच लगा यह काम, सूचक है प्रकृति की उदार प्रवृत्ति का, जो हर तरह के जीव जंतु को पनाह देती है। ठीक इसी प्रकार, यह प्रदर्शनी भी इन सब कलाकारों के भिन्न भिन्न कामों को जगह देती है। इस राउंटेबल में करण श्रेष्ठा, अनुजा दासगुप्ता, आसमा तूलिका और कौशल सापरे, शरबेंदु दे और ज्ञानवंत यादव हिस्सा लेंगे।
